What is a Holon?
Holon derives from the same root as the word holistic, while the suffix, -on indicates a particle, or a piece. A Hol - on is something that is simultaneously a whole, and a part of a greater whole.
A Holon is a living symbiosis. This is what we work to create on all of our projects, with our team, with our partners, and with the world at large.
The idea of Holon, Holarchy, or a Holonic business model, is very simply the idea of synergy. In terms of business, Holon is the idea of independent parts working together in a greater system — also the idea of multiple systems working together to form a cohesive and symbiotic whole. For instance, bees and flowers form a natural Holon and depend on one another for survival. Similarly, authors, artists, businesses, and non-profits form natural Holons that are not being properly organized or utilized. Holon is here to make those connections easy.
Holon was established at the end of 2011 with the plan to redefine and transform a stagnant industry of self-publishing to a massive community of authors worldwide who had paid to publish their written works. Holon Publishing and Collective Press, while being a publishing company, also started its roots as a B2B agency, providing social media marketing, graphic and web design, and content marketing for businesses and non-profits of all kinds. The vision from the beginning has been a holistic approach to publishing that integrates income sources from B2B transactions with non-profits, authors, and artists, allowing a unique sharing of profits that ensures both sustainability and profitability for all involved in the process.
